This is the time of year when everyone thinks about spending more time outdoors, including for exercise. Bend offers a wide variety of outdoor amenities to satisfy most preferences, including a large number of beautiful and well maintained public parks. Here are the 5 best parks in Bend for an outdoor workout.

Riverbend Park

Located in the heart of Bend, River Bend Park features some of the city’s most diverse outdoor activities. Boasting a long trail that leads up the Deschutes and back into the shopping district of  the Old Mill, it is a popular running circuit for many Central Oregonians. It is also a launching point for floaters, paddle boarders, canoes, and kayaks. There is also a large grass field for setting up a variety of outdoor sports and events. Pine Nursery Park

Pine Nursery Park is the biggest park in Bend. Totaling 159 acres, the park features an entire sports complex that includes four softball fields, 4 multi-purpose grass fields, 16 pickleball courts, a disc golf course, a 1.3 mile paved trail loop, as well as additional fields and room for expansion. There is also an entirely separate fences dog park featuring its own trails, field, and water pad (shaped like fire hydrants). Shevlin Park

Shevlin Park is most popular with runners, hikers, and joggers. Its trails will take you into a protected wilderness area that has been under the stewardship of the city of Bend since 1920. The park also feature three separate picnic areas, and trails that meander through the forest and by the river. Located on Bend’s West Side, the park is generally not crowded and offers a quiet respite for those seeking a workout that is truly “outdoorsy”. It is for these reasons this park is one of the best parks in Bend.

Big Sky Park

Big Sky Park is another large sports complex designed to host a variety of sports and outdoor activities. The park features a regulation size baseball diamond, a softball field, and four soccer fields. Many sports events are held at Big Sky Park, including lacrosse, football, and even adult kickball. Near the park is a BMX track, which is operated by High Desert BMX. Skyline Sports Complex

Skyline Sports Complex is a heavily used park that features four large fields, outdoor basketball courts, and a large picnic area. Located near Cascade Middle School, this park is a popular destination for youth athletics and events.
